Monthly Challenge 2- Ann's Distressing tutorial

Hi All and Welcome to the 2nd Whimsy Stamps Challenges - Monthly Edition!

We are excited to bring you special monthly challenges every third Wednesday of the month. We are hoping to share some new ideas and creativity. And we can't wait to see what you do with these fun challenges!

This second challenge is going to be a Distressing tutorial created for us by our very own Whimsy designer Ann.

Our Distressing Challenge will run from now until 12 noon EST on Tuesday, October the 20th. You can simply join in by showing us your distressing and leaving your comment here before the 21st. We will have one random winner from our monthly challenge participants that will be announced on Tuesday afternoon sometime. One lucky participant will receive two of our new release Pet Collection stamps of her choice!

Also, throughout the month we will be showcasing some DT and participant creations to not only remind readers to join in, but to also show how different the creation can be! So, we hope you'll join us here on Whimsy Challenges Monthly!

Ann's Distressing Tutorial

Materials

Distressing materials: craft sponge brush, brown ink pad for “classic” distressing (any ink pad color can be used for a distressed look), paper edger/scissors
Other materials: paper, glue/adhesive, stamps

Step 1:
Stamp image. Dab craft sponge brush on brown ink pad (or other color of your choosing). Place brush down at an angle outside of the paper that you want to distress. Begin to work in the ink in circular motions, moving the brush towards the paper, then onto the paper itself and towards the image.

Step 2:
Turn the paper as you work your way around the image. Dab the brush onto the ink pad as needed and make sure to move the brush in a circular motion.

Step 3:
Once the outer edge of the paper containing the image has been inked up, use a paper edger or a pair of scissors to create an even more distressed look.

Step 4:
Optional – Go back and ink up the outer edge of the image again using the same technique as Step 1-2. This option is for those who do not want the white core of papers to show up as prominently.

Step 5:
Distress the other papers in a similar manner. In the picture below, the beige/ivory colored paper has been distressed using the previous steps, crumpled, then inked up slightly using the craft brush.

Step 6:
Put the pieces together and add sentiments/embellishments as necessary.

Monthly Challenge 1 - Gift Card Holder Tutorial

Hi All and Welcome to Whimsy Stamps Challenges - Monthly Edition!

This first challenge is going to be a tutorial. Recently, I found a cute gift card holder challenge on Double Dutch challenges and thought it would be fun to create a tutorial to show how simple this craft idea really is. You can whip one up in a matter of a few minutes.

Our Gift Card Holder Challenge will run from now until 12 noon EST on Tuesday, September 15th. You can simply join in by making your gift card holder and leaving your comment here before the 15th. We will have one random winner from our monthly challenge participants that will be announced on Tuesday afternoon sometime. One lucky participant will receive 2 FREE Whimsy Stamps of her choice (from in stock items) as well as a packet of BasicGrey brads! Please remember this prize is for our Monthly Challenge, not the weekly ones.

Also, throughout the month we will be showcasing some DT and participant creations to not only remind readers to join in, but to also show how different the creation can be! So, we hope you'll join us in creating your own Gift Card Holder and maybe your project will be one of the ones we share here on Whimsy Challenges Monthly!

Gift Card Holder Tutorial

Supplies:
1 piece of cardstock, 8.5 x 11 inches and some matching designer paper
scoring tool (ScorPal or something similar)
stamps, ink, coloring medium
embellishments and ribbon
adhesive or sticky tape

Step 1:
Cut your cardstock to 9 by 3.75 inches

Step 2:
Score at 2 1/2 and 6 3/8 inches

Step 3:
Fold along the score lines and then apply adhesive to the out side edges on the bottom flap. Then glue the adhesive side down to the middle section.

Step 4:
Decorate with cardstock and designer paper. I used Razzleberry Red cardtsock with Lemonade BasicGrey papers. I cut 3 pieces of my cardstock each to 2.25 x 3.5 inches and then cut the 3 pieces of designer paper each to 2 x 3.25 inches.

Step 5:
Adhere all cardstock and designer papers to your holder in the appropriate places.

Step 6:
Stamp an image for the front of your holder. Color and have ready to decorate the front. I added a sentiment to the inside of my holder using some oval punches and a Whimsy sentiment. You can add your embellishments now or during the last step.

Step 7:
Tie a piece of ribbon around the holder to keep it closed. Finish adding decorative touches with images, embellishments, etc. and then you are done!

Welcome to Whimsy Stamps Challenges - Monthly Edition!

Here you will find a different spin on challenges and maybe learn something new too! Don't worry we will still be posting our weekly Monday challenges, but we wanted to have a little more fun and share more creative ideas with you!

We will post a special challenge once a month on the 3rd Wednesday! We are hoping to have some fun tutorial challenges and special project challenges to share with you. We hope you will join in the fun and challenge yourself to try something new!
